On February 5, my evening started with great inconvenience as I arrived 25 minutes early for the Republican caucus for Precinct 44 at Chipita Elementary School. I had to park three blocks away due to all the traffic! Some other event must have been scheduled at the school that night! Was it back to school night or midnight basketball? Surely somebody must have mis-scheduled something!
As I shuffled through crowded halls, I suddenly realized the truth that my eyes couldn't comprehend. Hundreds of people were pressing in to attend their neighborhood caucus! People met people from down the street for the first time. A new 20-year old voter got to share her passion to express her conservative views and her support for her favorite candidates for president and congressman!
As the night progressed, my amazement grew. As I visited 25 other precincts, I suddenly realized this wasn't a fluke! It was more like a "movement"! Republicans everywhere were coming to their caucus for the first time--motivated by their patriotism and commitment to the future of their country and the Republican Party. In various precincts, five, ten, and twenty TIMES the number of people attended as did in 2006! At one school, I dropped in on a well-attended Democrat precinct to congratulate them for their participation. (Obviously, Colorado Democrats are ready to support some changes in their party too!)
For all District 14 constituents who attended on this night, thank you so very much! It means a lot to know that Republican "grassroots" participation is alive and dynamic! Your participation helps reenforce a core principle of our Party, that only voters have a vote! When people participate to choose their candidates and their issues, "special interests" have to take a back seat to the voting public. That's the way it should be!
Kent Lambert with Congressman Bob Shaffer, Republican candidate for U.S. Senate.
House District 14 needs a full time Republican Representative and an experienced leader. As a freshman legislator, I have worked hard to support Republican principles, and have been offered the opportunity to serve in leadership positions on the House Finance Committee and with the Republican Study Committee of Colorado.
As a retired military officer, budget analyst and diplomat, I have a proven record of results as a problem solver and coalition builder. My ability to build cooperation with the governments of Jordan, Sweden, and other nations demonstrates my ability to work with people of all backgrounds and interests.
I will do my best as the representative for the citizens of District 14, and will bring people together to get things done.
